C&YP Dance Network North

I hope you have all had a good break over Easter and enjoying the lovely weather. Welcome to the first regular e-newsletter for the Children and Young People's Network and I will use this format to keep you updated on the network and invite you to networking events.

I need contributions and contributors so please feel free to forward news items, reviews, opportunities or jobs.  Would anybody like to review the Dance UK The Future: New Ideas, New Inspirations conference that happened last weekend or what are your thougths on Messers Khan, Newson and Shechter statement 'criticising the quality of UK dance training'?

The Sign Up, Share and Like campaign is still running. We currently have 71 people signed up to the network but if the network is to be really effective then we need more members. So spread the joy!

Update - Network Away Day - NSCD, Leeds
The first Network Away Day was held on the 30th March at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds. 30 people from across the north offered their time, expertise and experience to consider the existing progression routes for children and young people were across the north, reflect the barriers to progression and begin to rethink what we can achieve in 18 months.
Our starting point was the children and young people's dance strategy for the North, A New Canvas for Dance, which sets out the network's vision and aims. We used the Theory of Change model and to help us unpack our existing aims which determined what interventions/activities were need to help achieve these. I think I can speak for the group in saying that I never want to see another post it note again...or maybe for a while. As the network co-ordinator it is now my role to take all the notes made, ideas offered and build them into a project delivery plan. If you were not able to attend and feel strongly about a particular matter or perhaps have an idea for an intervention/activity then there is till time to get things to me. Like our Facebook page and message me your thoughts. In fact Like our page anyway and whilst you are there, share your event/opportunity and post good things that are going on near you.
Update - North West Network Meeting, Merseyside Dance Initiative, Liverpool
The network does not have a lot of resources so a big thank you goes to Merseyside Dance Initiative for hosting the first North West Networking Meeting, during an especially busy time for the organisation who were in the thick of delivering their annual dance festival Leap. The tea, coffee and biscuits supplied were very welcome.
One of the recommendations in A New Canvas for Dance was to replicate the Leeds Dance Ladder across the North to help provide clear progression routes in dance for children and young people. During the meeting we reviewed the Leeds Dance Ladder, made suggestions on how to improve it to create a North West version and began to plot on a map where activity is happening. As you can see from the picture and all the coloured dots, there is certainly a fair amount of activity happening.
